MUSICAL JOURNEY
Being the disciple of M.J.Srinivasa Iyengar, a very senior and distinguished Veena exponent, she flowered into a concert artiste at the age of fourteen. Sahana is also one among the select disciples of the Veena and vocal virtuoso, Padmabhushan T.N.Seshagopalan. Presently she is taking her advanced training under Padmabhushan Dr. T.V.Gopalakrishnan. She is indeed fortunate as she has been able to imbibe the revolutionary and innovative techniques of his style.
ACADEMICS
On the academic, front, Sahana is a master degree holder in VEENA(Karnatak music) from University of Madras. She has qualified NET- UGC and is a recipient of Junior and Senior Research Fellowship from UGC. She has been awarded the doctorate in Music from the University of Mysore for her thesis “Impact of Advanced Technology on Karnatak Instrumental Music:A Study. She is working as a guest faculty in the department of Veena at University college of Fine Arts, Mysore, from the past 3 years. She is an “A” graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. She has secured first rank in senior examination and distinction in the vidwath exam in Veena conducted by the Karnataka State Secondary Education Board.She has published many articles in reputed magazines & news papers. She has also presented seminars in national & international conferences.
PERFORMANCES
Performing extensively to music lovers of the country, she has performed at prestigious institutions such as IIT Chennai , Nada Inbam Sabha, Mylapore fine arts , Sri Krishna Gana sabha in Chennai, Ananya, Gayana Samaja, Percussive Art Centre, Devagiri Sangeetha Sabha,Bengalooru utsava ,in Bangalore, Mysore palace, Shruthi Manjari, J.S.S.Sangeetha Sabha, Sri Prasanna Vidya Ganapathi Mahotsava Charitable trust, Ganabharathi Mysore and mant others. She has performed in AIR as a child artist many times. Her music has taken her beyond the country's borders to the foreign lands also. She has performed at the high commission auditorium in Kualalampur, Malaysia.
She has also been very fortunate to share the stage with great mridangam mastreos like Padmabhushan T.V.Gopalaskrishnan, Vidwan Mannargudi Eashwaran and others. Besides performing solo, Sahana has worked with various musicians to explore new vistas. She has performed many concerts with her husband A.P.Srinivas, who is also a renowned Violinist. She is open minded to recognize the beauty and power of other forms of music as well and along with her husband has established an ensemble troupe ‘Nad Ninad’, which includes many aspiring and professional musicians, which explores cross cultural music, the emerging exciting new music of our time.
